2007 Alzheimer's
Car & Truck Show

Wow. What a day! The weather was perfectly glorious
and we had a record 309 cars & trucks registered for the
big show!
With that many guests, we could have used a few more willing
helping hands from club members, but we made due. Although
we were pretty worn out at the end of the day, it was a good
feeling to raise a lot of money for the Alzheimer’s
Association and left us having the satisfaction of a job well
done. We had over 50 cars on the show field by 8 am and over
200 by 10 am. That’s a lot of cars to register and park
in a short amount of time and we did an outstanding job!
Many many thanks to the members who came out and worked to
raise money for a worthy cause!
Along with a record number of cars & trucks, we had a
record number of vendors. And once Butch gets done counting
all the money, I think we’ll discover we raised a record
donation for the Alzheimer’s Association!
We had a huge amount of very neat stuff for the auction,
some collectible items, some antiques, lots of gift certificates.
Thanks to everyone who donated goodies and collected stuff
from businesses! Some of our guests even brought items to
donate to the cause! This was Norman O’Neal’s
last year to conduct our auction – he has retired and
Brian Schaefer will be our new auctioneer next year. Brian
is a car guy who conducts charity auctions on the side, and
he took a turn at the mic this year and did a great job. Many
thanks to both Norman and Brian for bringing in good money
for us. The auction this year raised over $5,300 – another
record breaker!

Terry Miller and Cass Naugle from the Alzheimer’s Association
were at the show, and Terry manned a booth with information.
Terry also selected the Alzheimer’s Choice Award –
a 1963 Apache Pickup owned by Dave Desmarais of Mount Airy.
Terry selected Dave’s pickup because her father had
one when she was young and she has many fond memories of riding
in that pickup.

The Zimmerman Family Memorial Award went to the 1959 Impala
owned by Jim Wilkerson.

The Ladies Choice Award went to the 1941 Chevy Convertible
owned by Jerry Williams of Mineral, VA.

The Peoples Choice Award went to the 1963 Chevy “Scooby
Do” Van owned by Dave Jones.

The 50/50 of $317 was won by Marc Combs of New Windsor, age
4 ½. Marc is the grandson of Jim & Linda Riggs,
and PopPop purchased Marc’s 50/50 tickets for him and
Linda was very embarrassed when Marc’s number was pulled!
When notified, Marc’s mommy donated $300 to the Alzheimer’s
Association and let Marc keep $17 – Marc plans to buy
some Transformers and was very happy with his winnings, although
he would have rather won the Candy Count!

I personally would like to thank everyone who helped with
the preparation, planning and execution of another highly
successful car & truck show. I am proud that we have been
able to raise so much money for a worthy cause with the help
and support of our donors, sponsors, show attendees and club
members. It is a lot of work, I know, but think of the good
we have been able to do with the money raised. Terry Miller
of the Alzheimer’s Association mentioned that 5 programs
for Alzheimer’s families recently had to be cut due
to budget restrictions. Hopefully the money we raised can
help to reinstate those programs.
